Chinese food, Chinn Chinn, Michigan, Southwest Michigan

I awoke to a beautiful day in Southwest Michigan with the sound of northern geese flying south.  A golden glow of morning light spilled in through the kitchen window, reflected off the trees in the ravine.  We ate breakfast to the sounds of a neighborhood awakening to a day of possibilities. We decided to seek out a new place to eat.  An on-line search for “best Chinese food in Southwest Michigan” revealed a place called Chinn Chinn in Matawan, about a 40 minute drive toward Kalamazoo. As we drove we enjoyed the beauty of Michigan in November.

The corn fields that have been allowed to stand to a dry stalk are now being harvested by large machines revealing 6 inch stalks marking rows planted in spring.  Other fields still stand full of drying corn on weary spines.

The blue berry bushes now show golden slips under redden leaves.  The wine tours are winding up now with talk of snow in the coming week.  Small antique stores and fruit markets have buttoned up for the season with “Closed for the season” signs marking the end of the Coloma’s tourist months.

We were amazed to find so many people waiting for the restaurant to open at 3pm.  A lady waiting in the car next to us said she had come from Kalamazoo to pick up food she had ordered at 11 am.  She said that Chinn Chinn is known all over Michigan.  We shared a Pu Pu Plate as we drove on our way home as our Boxers drooled over our shoulders.  We unpacked the rest of the food at home to  find enough food for tomorrow as well. The meal was absolutely worth the wait and the drive. We have found another great place to eat.

Weekends are a time to remove the game face carried through the work week, to reconnect with our spouses and families, to recharge for the coming week.

Two weeks ago I sat down to my computer and began to type the story of my career.  I wrote 10,000 words the first day and 15,000 words the next.  Five days later I had written all that I felt I should say, 38,000 words.  My husband recognized that I was “in a zone” and brought my meals to me, took care of the world around me and stayed close by to offer advice if needed.  I have since been through the book twice and uploaded it to Create Space.  I expect the Proof to arrive on Wednesday.  The Book is titled “Hard Won Pearls”.  It refers to the lessons I have learned over the last 30 years in work as a physical therapist.
